Treatment Scope > Dermatopathy > Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a kind of chronic erythroderma desquamation. It is also called cow-skin tinea and characterized by multi-layer silvery scales that appear repeatedly on the erythema. In inflammatory skin, the keratin cells produce several cell factors such as TNFA, IL-1, rIFN which can induce the inflammatory cells and the vascular endothelial cell to make the adhesive molecule express, therefore, the increased adhesion of wbc, matrixes and endothelia helps the wbc to migrate and enter the epidermis and true skin, finally resulting in the development of psoriasis. It is believed that the rapid proliferation of keratin cells is related to genetic, infection and immune factors. Others factors such as stress, emotional trauma, injury surgery, food, drink and medication sometimes can make psoriasis worse.
Psoriasis occurs at any ages. There are 4 types i.e. psoriasis vulgaris, psoriasis pustulosa, psoriasis arthropathica and erythrodermic psoriasis.
Pathogenesis explained in TCM:
The pathogenic wind stagnates in the muscles and skin and transforms to heat, causing heat in blood and creating blood dryness, stasis or disharmony with the ying and imbalance of zang and fu, yin and yang.
Treatment principle of TCM:
According the main idea of dispersing the liver and eliminating stagnation; nourishing yin, promoting circulation and eliminating stasis and suppressing the hyperplasia of the epidermal cells, our therapeutic centre uses the herbal formulae combined with bathing in herb solution, external ointment and acupuncture to treat patients. After the treatment, the general condition of the patient is improved, and the overgrowth of the epidermal cells is suppressed, the metabolism of the local tissues is accelerated, the pathogenic courses are recovered. The total course of the illness is remarkably shortened, the dermatological symptom is relieved and some patients are clinically cured.
