Treatment Scope > Neuropsychic System > Parkinson's Disease
Clinic manifestations include motion disorder, tremor, increased muscle tension, reduced voluntary action and dull face look. The pathologic changes are the neuronal degeneration with depigmentation of the substantia nigra, and the deficiency of dopamine. When the dopamine depletion reaches to certain degree, the symptoms of Parkinson's disease will appear.
Pathogenesis in TCM explanation:
The deficiency of Qi and blood, insufficiency of liver yin, malnutrition of muscles and tendons, deficiency of kidney essences, insufficient nourishment of bone marrow, or internal movement of liver wind or flare-up of liver yang, Qi stagnation and blood stasis can cause this disease. Liver stores blood and kidney stores essence. If body has not been taken good care of, damaged by diseases, or deficiency in the liver and kidney, essence, blood and Qi will be insufficient. The deficient wind moves inside body therefore the extremities tremor occurs. The insufficient kidney essence cannot nourish up brain and Marrow Sea, the extremities loss control and develop trembles. Excessive emotions transform to fire, extremities tremble or stagnation of phlegm-dampness invades jing-luo and this disease develops.
Treatment:
In our therapeutic center, treatments with acupuncture on both body and head can stimulate the jing Qi circulating around the body with the effects of balance and harmony to smooth jing and luo, nourish Qi and blood, regulate emotion, calm liver and put off wind, tranquilizing the mind, improve brain's circulation, block or reduce the toxic free radical damage to neurons, especially protect the neuron of substantia nigra, suppress transformation of dopamine and increase the containment of dopamine.
After acupuncture patients generally feel the entire body is relaxed, reducing the frequency and amplitude of trembling. With the comprehensive treatment the symptoms can gradually improve such as enlarging the distance of steps, shortening the time to turn the body. The improvements are fluctuant and gradual; however, the tendency of the disease is developing towards a good outcome.
