Multiple sclerosis is a CNS disease characterized by scattered areas of CNS demyelination. The lesions mainly occur in white matter. The degeneration of myelin sheath and the gliofibril proliferation form the fibrous scars-sclerosis resulting in poor conduction of neural impulse even disappearance. 

The etiology is not clear, it may be the allergic disease caused by multiple factors. 

Clinical manifestations: 

Because the MS lesions occur at anywhere in CNS with different degrees, various clinical symptoms can be seen: acute or subacute. 

(1). Premonitory symptoms: headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and upper respiratory tract infection. 

(2). Dyskinesia: dyskinesia is a common symptom of MS including partial or complete paraplegia or tetraplegia. It often starts at the lower limbs with weakness and gradually develops spastic paralysis. 

(3). Cranial nerves symptoms: retrobullbar neuritis; visual disturbance, double vision, strabismus, nystagmus and ptosis of upper eyelid caused by the paralysis of oculomotor nerve and abducent nerve; facial numbness or abnormal feeling, trigeminal neuralgia, facial paralysis, facial spasm, dizziness, slurred speech and dysphagia. 

(4). Paresthesia: It depends on the location and size of the MS lesions ranged from the pain, numbness, gridle-like pressure, burn or cold feeling of upper limbs, back and legs to the sensory ataxia and pseudopoint action. Sensory disturbance can be better or worse but eventually it becomes persistent transverse sensory disturbance of spinal cord. 

(5). Other symptoms: Frequency of micturition, urinary incontinence, and retention of urine, deafness, hemianopsia or total blindness, aphasia and epilepsy. 

The clinical manifestations can be relieved or recurred alternatively.
