Treatment Scope > Ear-Nose-Throat-Oral Department > Meniere's Disease
Meniere's disease is an inner ear disorder characterized by recurrent paroxysmal vertigo, tinnitus, aural fullness and fluctuating hearing loss. The pathological main change is hydrops of membranous labyrinth.
The basic principles to cause Meniere's disease are:
(1). Dysfunction of endolymphatic circulation, such as stasis and dilation in microcirculation and over exudation due to vein spasm, may be caused by allergic reaction and self-immune disorder.
(2). Absorptive dysfunction may be caused by the underdevelopment of endolymphatic vessel and cyst, and the stricture of aqueductus vestibuli that have an influence on endolymphatic drainage, high pressure inside membranous labyrinth, sensory epithelia compressed. Further the endolymphatic system degenerates and necroses. The auditory cells and its connected neural fibrae are stretched. The hearing is severely decreased. When the endolymphatic pressure rises to a certain degree, it results in vertigo that will be relieved gradually when the pressure reduced.
Aetiology and pathogenesis explained in TCM:
(1). Insufficiency of kidney essence.
(2). Yang deficiency of the kidney.
(3). Flare-up of the liver yang.
(4). Stagnation of phlegm and dampness
(5). The deficiency of the heart and spleen.
(6). Internal blocked by Blood stasis.
(7). Wind heat upward drive
Treatment:
To calm the liver, put off the fire, nourish the Qi, strengthen the spleen, eliminate the dampness, anti-allergic reaction, promote the circulation, get rid of blood stasis and lower the blood viscosity.
According the above treatment and the reference of modern pharmacology, our therapeutic centre uses our own herbal formulae combined with acupuncture and auricular acupuncture to achieve effect on relieving vertigo quickly, even disappear and recovering the audibility gradually.
