Treatment Scope > Neuropsychic System > Idiopathic Facial Palsy
Facial neuritis is acute peripheral facial paralysis caused by the acute nonpyogeneic inflammation of the facial nerve inside the stylomastoid foramen. It is characterized by acute onset, facial muscle paralysis in the affected side, numbness in the face, the eyelids are incompletely closed, the forehead unfurrowed, the creases and skin folds effaced, the corner of the mouth drooped, the face pulled to the unaffected side, mild pain on the areas of mastoid process and face.
Aetiology:
The local vessels nourishing the nerve have been invaded by the wind and cold pathogenic factors and the vessels develop spasms resulting in the ischemic swelling of the facial nerve. As the nerve swells, it becomes compressed within the surrounding bony enclosure, and then the facial neuritis occurs. Or because the rheumatic facial neuritis, the periost inside the stylomastoid foramen becomes periostitis, resulting in the swelling and compressing, as well as blood circulation disorder of the facial nerve followed by facial nerve paralysis. Other pathologic changes mainly are swelling of the facial nerve and certain degeneration of the medullar sheath or axon.
Treatment principle:
Dispel the wind and cold, nourish the Qi, promoting the blood and eliminating the stasis, anti- inflammation and relieve the spasm.
Treatment:
(1). According the above principle, our therapeutic centre has made our own facial paralysis formula, for internal use.
(2). Our therapeutic centre also made our own facial paralysis formula, powdered herbs mixed with vinegar for external use.
(3). Acupuncture: wrist-ankle acupuncture, body acupuncture, once every two days. If the course of the disease is short, the symptom will be improved after one treatment (combined with herbs).
