Hyperplasia of prostate is also known as prostatic hyperplasia. Generally, this disease is related to the imbalance between androgen and estrogen, probably the decreased androgen and relatively increased estrogen. The hyperplasia part of prostate mainly is the gland around urethra, which makes urethra prolonged, pressed and deformed, increasing the resistance of urethra causing urination problem. On the late stage, secondary dilation and hydrops of kidney and ureter develop quickly.
Clinic manifestations of this disease include mainly frequent and difficult urination, and retention of urine. Frequent, urgent and painful urination and other cystitis symptoms will present when infection combined. Prostatic hyperplasia belongs to dysuria in TCM.
Etiology and pathology explained in TCM:
It is caused mainly by deficiency of kidney combined with insufficient functions of spleen and lung resulting Qi stagnation, blood stasis, phlegm accumulation stagnation or heat collection in lower jiao, and abnormal activity of bladder Qi. This disease is a deficiency and excessive combination syndrome.
