Treatment Scope > Urogenital System > Chronic Renal Failure
Chronic renal failure is a chronic injury of kidneys caused by various factors. The nephron mass is severely damaged so that the kidney cannot maintain the basic function including the excretion of metabolic products, regulation of fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance and so on. Clinically, it shows azotenmia, anaemia, bleeding tendency, hypertension, arrhythmia, and heart failure in advanced stage. Urine changes from hyperuria, to oliguria and anuria with ammonia taste inside mouth in final stage.
Pathology:
Renal tubular atrophy and residuary normal renal units compensatory hypertrophy, small arteries sclerosis and pachysis, glomerular hyalinization and glomerular cells hyperplasia, hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia.
Pathogenesis explained in TCM:
The key point is deficiency of kidney Qi, and stagnation of water toxins and blood stasis.
Treatment:
According to the pathological changes and the pathogenesis, we differentiate the syndromes and give different herbal formulas to patients. The principle is to tonify kidney, strengthen spleen, enrich Qi, promoting blood circulation, resolve stasis, excrete the tubid wasters, and correct the ratio of calcium and phosphonium. Combining with herbal treatment, we also use acupuncture to improve kidney function and maintain the function at a stable condition for a long period, relieve symptoms, improve life quality and recovery to normal life.
