Treatment Scope > Dermatopathy > Alopecia Areata
Alopecia areata is a dermatological disorder of limited hair loss abruptly without inflammatory damage and subjective symptom.
Aetiology:
(1). Genetic background makes the patients vulnerable to be affected. The dysfunction of the immune system occurs under the mental stimulation. The autoimmune reaction attacks the healthy follicles resulting in the loss of hair.
(2). The cerebral vessels are stressed continually under the long-term effect of mental factor, the blood supply in these vessels occurs. The mutual circulation between the neural system mediated by the neural mediation and the immune system mediated by the hormone mediation are destroyed resulting in alopecia areata finally.
(3). The patients with hyperthyroidism may present alopecia areata.
In summary, alopecia areata is not only related to the mental and genetic factors, but also autoimmune function. Patients often have certain microcirculational dysfunction and some of them have lower cell immune functions and positive to autoantibody.
Aetiology and pathogenesis explained in TCM:
Insufficiency of the liver and kidney, deficiency of the yin blood, deficiency of the Qi and blood caused by the sickness over long-term and weakness of the skin and muscles make the wind pathogenic factor invade. The overflowed wind causes blood dryness and the roots of hair to become empty, and finally the loss of hair.
Treatment principle:
To disperse liver, moisten dryness, nourish liver and kidney, enrich Qi and blood, promote circulation and eliminate blood stasis, regulate immune function and accelerate the hair regrowth.
Treatment:
We use our own hair growth formulae for internal and external usage combined with ultrashort-infra-red radiation, and acupuncture and so on. The comprehensive treatment generally has effect within a few days.
