Also named anaphylactic rhinitis. There are two types: the perennial (non-seasonal) and seasonal. Seasonal one also named the pollenogenic rhinitis that occurs only at certain season. The inflammatory mediators (mainly histamine) act on the sensory nerval receptors, then the nerve reflexes develop. The symptoms include itching nose, sneezes, nasal obstruction, runny nose, and itching pharynx, cough even asthma.
The aetiologies mainly are:
(1). Sensitive constitution, may related to inheritance.
(2). Allergens contact. (a). Inhalation of allergens such as dust, pollen, fur hair, chemical powder. (b). Intake of food allergens such as egg, milk certain medication. (c). Infection of bacterial and its toxin. (d). Injection of medicine such as serum, penicillin, streptomycin. (e). Contact of allergens such as paint, fur hair.
(3). Stimulation of humidity, sunlight, ultra violet and so on. The endocrine imbalance may become the internal factor to cause the allergic reaction.
The pathogenic factors and the pathogenic mechanism explained in TCM:
(1). The deficiency and damaged long Qi, invaded by the wind and cold, fails to activate the flow of long Qi, the nasal orifice obstructed.
(2). The deficient long Qi and spleen Qi, the stagnated body fluid, the long-term obstructed nasal orifice, the disease develops.
(3). The deficient kidney Qi, fails to warm and nourish the long, the yang Qi vulnerable to exhaust, the wings of the nose invaded and the disease develops.
Treatment:
Our therapeutic centre has developed a specific herbal formula for rhinitis. For severe cases, the combination of treatment with acupuncture and other TCM therapies have gotten remarkable effects. Regulation of the body immune function, treatment of supporting body resistance and eliminating pathogens can reduce or even eliminate rhinitis.
Case report: Male 32 years old lived in Canada for 5 years. In May and June since 3 years ago, whenever he goes to work, he feels itching on his eyes, nose and pharynx, sneezing, running nose. He used one box of napkin per day. The diagnosis is allergic rhinitis. He took our herbal formula, and within 6 days, the symptoms disappeared. He continued to use herbs to support resistance and regulate immune function, orally, once every 2 days and stopped after 18 days according our suggestion. The disease has not recurred for 3 months since then.
