The meridian is the channel that connects the zang-organs with the fu-organs. It is the communication system between the internal and external parts of the body as well as the upper with the lower. It also has a coordinating effect.
It affects the functional state of the organs by regulating the state of qi and blood between hyperactive and hypoactive, regulating the complex physiological activities between the organs and the limbs, so that the functional activities of the body parts can be coordinated. In the diseased state, it also affects a variety of complex pathological changes.
The occurrence and transformation of the disease is closely related to the meridians. When the disease invades the body, it can be transmitted to the internal organs through the meridians. Due to the coherence between the internal organs connected by the meridians, the disease can be transferred from one viscera to another. In the diseased state, the harmony of qi and blood is broken, and the state of yin & yang may turn hyperactive or hypoactive.
Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment is the stimulation of the acupoints on the surface of the body. The acupoints lie along meridians, and therefore it can stimulate the meridian’s regulation of yin and yang, restore harmony to qi and blood, and promote the body’s natural resistance to eliminate pathogenic factors and restore function of the organs.
