Treatment Scope > Dermatopathy > Acne
Acne is a kind of chronic inflammatory skin disorder of hair follicle and sebaceous glands characterized by comedo (whiteheads, blackheads), papules and pimples on the face, chest and back. It is common in teenagers.
Aetiology:
(1). Endocrine factor: the hormonal changes of puberty stimulate the sebaceous glands to secrete more sebum that enlarge the sebaceous glands.
(2). Sebaceous factor: the over secretion of sebum makes the keratinization at the infundibular part of follicles and the gland ducts resulting in the excretion disorder of sebum, the retention of sebum forms acne.
(3). Bacteria factor: the microbes in follicular cysts are mainly acne Corynebacterium. Besides the infected inflammation these bacteria can decompose fat and produce free fatty acid therefore result in inflammatory reaction of inside and around the follicular cysts and make the papules, pimples and nodes occur.
(4). Other factors: genetic, diet, gastroenteric dysfunction, menstruation, mechanic stimulation and cosmetics may induce acne.
Differentiation in TCM:
a. Wind and heat in lung channel
b. Stagnation of warm heat
c. Blood stasis and phlegm coagulation
Principle of treatment:
Clear heat and eliminate dampness, promote circulation and resolve blood stasis, anti-bacteria and regulate endocrine and immune functions.
According to the above principle, our therapeutic centre differentiates syndromes individually and makes our own herbal formula for both oral and external treatment use. The effect shows up after a short treatment, with improved results after long-term treatment for reduction of scar proliferation and pigmentation.
